Middlesex, Vermont ~ Local, Organic, Ethically Raised Meats
We are a small Vermont family farm committed to providing high quality and organic meat to our community. Leading an increasingly self-sufficient lifestyle and ensuring our food is cared for is what drives our inspiration for farming. All of our animals graze on, forage in and root through about 40 acres of land. Our farm is a combination of land we lease and land we own.
We were vegetarians for years and began to eat meat when we started our family and Lila began dreaming about roasted chickens! It became clear that all people need a diverse selection of healthy choices, and that buying organically grown veggies from China and California is having just as damaging an impact on the world as factory farming. We began to buy more organic and local products, (chickens for roasting among them) and then to grow our own. Now, teaching our children about the direct connection from farm to table is another important part of why we farm.
We love to eat organic, delicious, nutritious local food and are happy to offer meat raised kindly and with purpose. All of our animals eat primarily organic within their pastures and from our gardens, and are never fed any hormones or antibiotics. We believe local food should be available to everyone. We are raising both 100% organically fed animals and also animals that are fed some conventional feed. We are doing this to make sure that we can offer affordable prices to everyone. 100% organic animals have a lower carbon footprint than conventional animals, and are delectable to the palette. The conventional animals are also more delicious than anyting you will find in the store. We are a small enough farm that we can give all of our animals the care and attention they need to be healthy and happy. And of course tasty after all.
Everyone should enjoy great local food! Our business gives to food shelves and sells to local schools. Healthy eating practices start early. Children should be educated about whole, nutritious food, and about how to support local economy by buying close to home.
Our country is at the beginning of a food revolution. We need to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. This means buying food that is grown close to home. By redefining what is considered food, steering away from packaged goods and products that travel all over the world to get to our tables. We are farming because we want to support our local economy, reduce our carbon footprint and produce great food right here! Organic is important. Just because something is local doesn't mean it is necessarily better. Our business is here to tow the line on organic and also offer truly great, high quality meat to all.
Enjoy!
